PRESCRIBED CHAOS

Hi, I’m Brandi Mac,

a critical care nurse practitioner, mom of 4, and survivor of the chaos I now write about. I’ve spent years treating patients, advocating for families, and occasionally yelling into the healthcare void hoping someone might hear me.

I created Prescribed Chaos because somewhere between working in the system and surviving it, I realized we need more spaces for the real stuff-the mess, the heartbreak, the small wins, and the moments where all you can do is laugh through the chaos.

What This Publication Is About

Prescribed Chaos is a newsletter about addiction, patient advocacy, and the beautifully broken mess that is modern healthcare. I write about that it means to love someone with substance use disorder, to heal as a family, and to keep showing up when the system makes you want to throw something.

You’ll find:

  • Real reflections from the frontlines of caregiving and clinical care

  • Support for families who are somewhere between “I’m fine” and “I might light the group chat on fire”

  • Sarcastic-but-loving takedowns of stigma, burnout and bad policies

  • Tools for providers, parents, and fellow chaos navigators

This isn’t a place for wellness influencers or toxic positivity. It’s a place for truth, grit, humor and finding meaning in the middle of the mess we call life.

Who This Is For

If you’ve ever:

  • Sat in a waiting room doing emotional triage while pretending to be composed

  • Worked in healthcare and felt like a cog in a broken machine

  • Tried to set boundaries with a loved one in active addiction and questioned if you were the problem

  • Wondered how to be compassionate without losing your damn mind

You’re in the right place

Subscribe + Stay Connected

I post 1-2 times a week. Sometimes it’s educational, sometimes it’s personal, sometimes it’s just me yelling (professionally, of course) into the void. You’ll also get access to my free family guidebook of the transition from tough love to meeting them where they are in active addiction.

Paid Subscribers

This is where the truth lives.

Behind the public posts, viral videos, and advocacy is the reality of what families are really facing when they try to navigate addiction treatment, recovery, and systemic dysfunction.

In this paid-only section, you’ll find:

  • Family Case Study Deep Dives

  • Private audio reflections (recorded when the emotions are fresh)

  • Downloadable tools & boundary worksheets

  • Voice note-style commentary on the red flags no one else is naming

  • Honest Q&As from what families are emailing me behind the scenes

This isn’t content. This is survival strategy.

If you’ve ever felt alone, confused, or manipulated by the very people who promised to help, this space is for you.Subscribe below, share with someone who needs it, and stay in the chaos with me.
